Hey guys, I see a ton of threads on people asking what to use for the OAT, so let me share my story. I bought the big navy blue Kaplan book the first time, thinking it'd be enough without spending a fortune on the course and it had a full practice test. The physics and gen-chem was full of 9,000 formulas deriving this from that a million times over again. I ended up taking the OAT and getting a 290 TS and 300 AA. I wasn't happy especially because I actually put the time in.
I then signed up for another re-take thinking I would be really lucky to get into somewhere. I was obviously let down seeing I was put on a bunch of wait lists, but I was fortunate enough to get into PCO and MCPHS. But, I had to study for the dreaded OAT again.
This time, I decided to do Chad's videos and the OAT Destroyer. I would roughly do a chapter a night for Chad's videos. I watched all of the videos and took notes on them. When I was done with the videos, I got out the OAT Destoyer and did practice problems, taking notes on what I got wrong in that too. There were 3 problems on the bio section I took notes on from the OAT Destroyer just a couple nights before the test. What a feeling.
Putting it all together, I raised my score to a 310/330. A 30 point increase! I have gotten pulled off of the wait list at 3 schools since then, keeping all options open since this is such a big decision!
Long story short, I would highly recommend combining those two. It sucks spending the money on these tests and study materials, we all know that. Putting in the time is another thing. But doing this won't break your wallet either, as I bought the OAT Destroyer used for $100, and Chad's videos is $50 per month. And you won't have to thumb through an 800 page book!
If anyone has any questions on these, just let me know!
