Hey all - the "nurses against pharmacists giving shots" thread made me curious - how many retail chains (large and small) mandate that all of their pharmacists are certified to give immunizations? I can think of a few (Walgreen's, at least some of the Kroger family, SuperValu pharmacies, and I think Safeway), but I know that there are a lot of pharmacies that haven't forced the issue yet.

And yes, I realize that just because a pharmacist is certified to give shots they don't always do them - I've seen plenty of pharmacists turn away patients because it's too busy or simply because they don't want to vaccinate.

Also, can you think of any cases of pharmacists OUTSIDE the retail setting giving shots? Maybe in LTC, but I don't think of immunization as the realm of most hospital pharmacists.

By the way, I work for a chain that doesn't require all of its pharmacists to immunize (or even for there to be one immunizer per store), but they won't hire anyone that doesn't actively immunize.

Holy necro bump

So why did you bump this? Or was there a spam deleted post before yours?

Interesting historical post, nobody questions pharmacists giving vaccines anymore, especially in the time of COVID....where even dentists have been given the OK to give COVID vaccines (although I haven't heard of any who actually do so.)

My fault for initial bump. I didn't see the date. Not even sure how it even came up for me to read it.

Probably from the "similar threads" listed at the bottom, I've almost been tricked a time or 2. I'll click on one and be thinking how did I miss this thread, and then I'll realize it is an ancient thread.

Using my super powers I can see that there was a deleted post before yours. So no doubt you saw this thread before that post was deleted.

since we are on subject, any way to protect yourself against fraud/false claims when giving immunizations? I have given 1000's of shots over the years and just had my second incident of a patient claiming physical harm. First time the guy claimed a flushot gave him frozen shoulder and couldn't move his arm because needle hit his bone. Second one is a lady claiming i gave her a sq covid booster because it was too "soft and gentle." I have reviewed immunization techniques and am very confident I am giving correct shots. Anyone experience this??
