Challenging Experience Question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes but remember it depends on how the question is asked. A challenge and an adversity have different connotations. While they are often used interchangeably, adversity does not refer to performing bad and not qualifying for nationals....

Also depends on how you write it. You can make any small challenge sound good if you make it meaningful in your writing.

What made you do the competition? Did you feel like your life wasn't full enough? Did something about the world upset you? Can you use what sparked your passion for this EC and frame it as a challenge somehow?

Adversity doesn't have to do with race or gender, as you probably know. Think about your most meaningful activities. There's probably something related to those activities that came from some sort of adversity.

Eg. If one of my most meaningful is any sort of performance, I might write about how an adversity in fear of public speech, how it constrained me, and how I overcame it.

So I talked about how it was something that taught me to persevere, but also something where I realized how, in the scheme of things, my worries were small time compared to others' (using a few specific examples of friends who had real problems, not just having a crappy race). Maybe it will show perspective and growth in maturity...? Not sure if that is a no-no.

Thanks again for your replies!
Going with the truth is respected. I'll buy it.

I agree wholeheartedly with @gyngyn

that last part you added OP about perspective is actually what really made me like this

you're making a lemon into passable lemonade with what I've seen here
