Hey guys! I'm really interested in these bs/md programs, as it has been a dream of mine to become a doctor for years. I'm posting my stats, so could anyone chance me for these incredibly tough programs?
I'm especially interested in PSU/Jeff, BU SMED, Miami HPM, Brown PLME, Case PPSP, or St. Bonaventure/GW. But I'd totally be willing to go to a smaller program. I just really want to become a doctor!

As a student in a BS/MD program, I think that you have a good chance. I'm not familiar with many of the programs you listed, but for my program, the interview at the medical school mattered just as much, if not more, than the grades and scores on paper. The interviewers want to see passion, commitment to studying medicine in the future, and personality. My interviewer was very interested in my non-science extra curriculars. Good luck!

Thank you! If you don't mind me asking, which program are you currently in?

Yeah you probably will get into atleast one if you apply to all of them so you're good there, BUT, I think you have a higher potential going the regular route. If you killed HS like that, most likely you'll kill college like that aswell. Then maybe you can apply to schools ranked higher than those with BS/MD. Hmm?

I would love to do an ivy or similar pre-med, but I just love the fact that med school is guaranteed. Thru a bs/md program, I could relax a little more during undergrad as opposed to a normal pre-med student.

If the BS/MD program is accelerated, forget the relaxing part. It's more stressful than the traditional route! Apply to the ones you like but still think about it. I would rather see you go the regular route and get admitted into an IVY or higher rated med school than go to a low tier bs/md program! You seem very talented, don't let anything hold down your potential! 🙂

Your chances seem good but make sure to show a lot of passion for helping people and passion for your extracurriculars during your interview. It seems silly but they want to make sure you won't flake on them after 2/3/4 years of living a relatively stress-free life. You will still have to work extremely hard to maintain GPAs and get the minimum MCAT during the programs but the looming stress of not getting in (which is a pretty large stress) is gone. And make sure you actually like the city/area/medical school you're going to because you will be spending a lot of time there.

Why not add Northwestern HPME to the list?

As a BSMD grad, you have a very very good chance of any school or option if your interview matches that level of academic success.

As to not achieving ones potential by going to a "lesser known" school...

I can see where this comes from and in fact I used to think that way. Looking back on things, because I finished two years earlier than most traditional route students, I was able to think about switching specialties and do a fellowship and still graduate at the same time as my peers who didn't have a fellowship. Most of my class from a very small BSMD program in roots town ohio got our first choice residencies, nearly 20% went on to be chief residents...I only say this to show that you can achieve anything with your work ethic, a BSMD program at any school will not hold you back from your destined success.

If you want more freedom to choose what you want to learn and have a college experience then traditional is better; if you want the freedom to subspecialize and reduced cost and more potential earning years after medical school then Shortened BSMD programs are likely for you. If you just want the guarantee there are some very respected schools that allow a few students each year a confirmed medical school spot without reducing the duration very much if at all.

You have pretty good chances just apply as soon as application opens up. Also stack up community service, shadow a MD if possible, volunteering at hospital or free clinics or even homeless shelter would complement your stats. Good luck!!
