I have not taken the DAT.

Alabama Resident

I have shadowed around 100 hours, extensive volunteering, no research to this point.

I am also a Finance major and an Athlete at an in-state SEC school.

On the right track?
What do I need on the DAT?

I was just accepted to UAB for entering Fall 2012. Your stats seem pretty good so far. You definitely need to try to hit 20+ on your DAT, because your GPAs are average for the most past. I am sure being an athlete will help, but I don't know how much weight it will carry so I would not count on it (just to be safe). Based on their entering stats in 2011, UAB is a top 10 school. Luckily, they accept a high number of in-state applicants (especially compared to the number of applications they receive).

If this helps, for 2011, here are their averages:
AA- 20 (8th in nation)
PAT-20 (11th)
GPA- 3.7 (6th)
sGPA- 3.6 (11th)

im a current student and i would agree with PrinceJ about 20+. good GPA (IMO) esp for an athlete. resume sounds good.

at this point things i recommend that i think make a difference
1) study hard for the DAT,
2) get your letters of rec in order and start on personal statement-get your app in early.
then
3) if/when you get an interview be yourself, they truly just want to get to know you and hear more about you. PM me if you have more questions now or throughout the process.
