Hello readers, thank you for your time.

I took the mcat once and got a 24 (8/9/7)

3.75s , 3.65

A lot of Extra circular including rotc and biochem research.

I'm applying broadly...

What are my chances if I don't retake mcat? If I do retake mcat and more score is similar and If I do really well?!

Thank you

That gpa is well above average for DO, and slightly lower than average MCAT.

I'd say you have a decent shot if you apply broadly.

A 24 is pretty low for DO and lethal for MD. Your GPA is great for DO and a tad below average for MD. What are your clinical ECs? IMO you aren't ready to apply this cycle.

Not ready to apply to DO programs with a 24 and a 3.7?

I'm not sure you should be giving advice.

Why? Gandy's right. A 24 is low, even for DO programs. Is an acceptance somewhere likely? One could venture that if OP's ECs and story is superb, maybe she has a fighting chance at low tier schools.

With a 3.5+ GPA, a 30+ MCAT would give the OP an average chance at MD schools, which for all intents and purposes, is preferable.

OP can't apply this cycle because a 6+ point improvement on the MCAT is going to take a few more months of studying considering current scores.

I was assuming OP would be open to applying to DO programs as well. If OP only wants MD, then he/she has virtually no chance of getting into a MD school with a 24 MCAT.

Agreed. A 24 is low even for low to mid-tier DO schools. Ranked, the lowest reported MCAT score median was 22, at Pikeville. The highest, Western, at 28. Considering the odds according to the limited info presented here, the chances are fairly doubtful. OP's chances would be exponentially higher with a better score—it'll make the difference between Pikeville and a mid-tier MD school for the OP.

I dont know about a mid tier MD school. I've spent a LOT of time on the MSAR recently and my chances are looking slim to get into a low tier MD school even with a 29 and 3.7.......

No medical school can ever be considered safe. There are very few students with impeccable records that can really say they're applying to kill. It's medical school admissions—tightly regimented, subjective, complex to an extent. You'll never know until you try. Apply early and broadly, and cover weaknesses in your application.

Oh you can count on that. 🙂 Im applying very broadly to MD schools and some of the DO schools that I really want to go to as well.
