Just wondering if a person who failed 3 years straight and was suspended, had to go to community college for a while, went back to a good university and for two years before applying to med school averaged a 3.4 gpa and 3.5 sci gpa, mcat 30, 2 years of volunteer, full time job-health care & non-healthcare, and strong LOR's has a chance at a u.s. med school and a foreign med school like ross or sgu? This person had to retake a lot of classes that he failed and the amcas averaged out his gpa to a 2.8 overall and a 3.0 in sci. However, the school took his highest grade and it comes out to a 3.3 overall. Because of the way amcas averages the gpa will any med school even look beyond his 2.8 gpa overall and maybe look at the past two years when he averaged a 3.4 gpa overall? Also, does ross or sgu use amcas or do you just send your application and transcripts straight to them? I would really appreciate if anyone would have some answers for me. Thanks.

Please learn about paragraphs.

I think it would be an uphill battle. Good luck though.

everything sounds great ... except that you failed college for 3 straight years (you were failing and they never kicked you out until year 3?). that might bring about the end of your application, unless you can write some bitchin personal growth stuff into your essays.

beware, tho -- i'm a pessimist

Thank you for the responses. My main concern is that most med schools won't even look at the complete application and just look at the gpa. I'm concerned that once they see that's it's that low they won't even bother to look over my entire application. Does anyone know if there are any schools that will look over my complete application even if my gpa is that low?

At least you're using first person this time. Now learn paragraphs.

Ironically, with your app, you'll need a killer essay to grab the adcoms attention. I'd start there.

Maybe u should learn to think for yourself.

Did I say I was the the first person to comment on that? I was simply saying it to contrast his use of first person.

Maybe you should learn not to be an attention *****.

but if you must

EVERYONE, NRAI2001 MENTIONED THAT SOMEONE ELSE SAID "Paragraphs" FIRST!!!

Holy ****, I wouldn't be surprised if u used that in your personal statement as well. Maybe u should learn to come up with some original junk, not just copying other peoples stupid comments.

This is great guys - please feel free to continue.

I think you're up now, ex.

Oh my God, NRAI2001, please shut up. You are totally attention whoring.

Because schools are looking for applicants with a 3.5 or higher, a 3.4 is a subpar average. If you want to show them you have improved, you need a couple years of ~3.9 to show them you can hack it. You might want to seriously consider why you only have a 3.4 from the time you suposedly got serious.

Best of luck.

I think there would be a chance. You would have to have a great personal statement that would talk about your upward progression. Make sure you explain what happened without whining or sounding like you're making excuses.

There is always hope. It is how yuo go about it that will determine your ultimate success.

I would say GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they would see the 2.8. However, your overall description sounds like you got your act together. You need an admission person who will take the time to see that.
