Chance of finding a prelim medine position?

Similar as a few unfortunate candidates here, I was matched into an advanced neurology program without the preliminary position. I am vigorously looking for an vacancy but realistically, what's the chance? If there are any vacancies, when they usually pop up? Right before July 1 or unpredictable?

Or I should just prepare for alternatives? look for research job? get more clinical experiences?
