Hello,

I am African(Cameroonian) American, however born in the US. I've so far had a really good upward trend, with mostly A's and B+'s however since I have many units my gpa only goes up a little bit (my upperdivision and core classes are A's)
My science gpa is 3.34 and my regular gpa is 3.36. Still in the process of taking the MCAT.

I have many extracurriculars:
1-Every 5 years when I go back to my distant home, Cameroon, Africa, I provide care (making and serving food, play with children, etc) for an orphanage in my fathers town. Have been helping out there for about 8 years, so far visited the orphanage twice.
2-Completed a medical trip to Nicaragua/Costa Rica: helped provide medication and care to many underprivilaged families and shadowed doctors there.
3-I work in a research lab on campus computing data simulations for patients with antibiotic resistance. My research consist of coding and data analysis. Not a wet lab but I am working on getting published.
4-I am a medical assistant and work in a hospital for one on one patient experience and to provide for myself as I live in San Francisco. (a very expensive city).
5-I am also a MEDLIFE officer on my campus, advising pre-med, pre-pa, and pre-dental students.

I know my gpa isn't the highest but what else can I do to increase my chances for DO school? I plan on shadowing a DO this spring. And what should I aim for to be competitive for DO schools and maybe some MD schools and what schools do you suggest?

Thanks!!!

GPAs are fine for a URM candidate, but the volunteering is lacking. Show off your altruism domestically.

Service to others less fortunate than yourself.
I currently work as a scribe at a children's ED. Would you suggest volunteering at a hospice/nursing home or will the pediatric oncology unit suffice?
