Hey everyone, this is the first time I've posted on this website, but I'm applying for the 2016 cycle, and I just want to get an idea of how my stats match up.
Undergrad: University Of Central Florida, pre clinical health sciences
Cumulative gpa: 3.3
Pre-req gpa: I think is around a 3.5-3.6 depending on the school
Upper level(last 60 credits) gpa: 3.6
GRE: 155V 152Q 4.0W
Observation hours: 50 outpatient, 150 pediatrics/aquatics, going to be starting some inpatient hours soon

Applying to: UCF, NOVA, FIU, UNF, USF, U St Augustine, Emory, Armstrong State, Regis, U Colorado

I'm retaking the GRE soon to try to get my quant score higher. Also, During my first year of school I wasn't too focused, and got C's in both my gen chem's. But, I went on with my degree and took both Organic Chem's and got an A and a B+. I've heard most schools would take the Orgo grades over the gen chem ones in this case, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. If it's not, then my pre-req gpa will be a lot lower and I might be in some trouble. wondering if anyone else is in this position

Look on the "pre pt" forum and you'll see tons of info in the sticky about stats and acceptances.

It is possible. I just applied for 2015 cycle and I had a 3.28 overall and was able to get accepted into 3 really competitive programs and placed on 4 wait lists.. But I've also worked as a healthcare provider for the past 2 years so take my stats with a grain of salt.

Call each one of those programs and speak to admissions about your organic chem and see if they will take it. If not Id be retaking one of your gen Chems, will show admissions your trying your best and will boost your Prereqs. Also try to lock down some solid LOR.

Good luck

Don't neglect the verbal section. That score is more heavily weighted than the quant score at a number of schools

I would plan to retake general Chem unless every single one of your targeted schools will accept Ochem (call them). As others have said, your GPA is low but you might be able to pull it off if you really stand out from the crowd in other ways.

So far I have contacted UCF and FIU, both of which said they would take the Ochem grades. I don't really have a lot of extra curriculars, my brother and I actually opened a small craft beer bar in my hometown while I was in school and I would drive 2 hours back and forth every weekend. I am basically the weekend manager and he operates the weekdays. So between being in Orlando for school during the week and driving home every weekend I never found the time to get heavily involved in clubs and such. I was still able to get my shadowing hours while in school, I just hope my lack of extra curriculars doesn't also prove a hindrance like my gpa.

As long as you have diverse observation hours it shouldn't be a make or break thing. It's not ideal, but hopefully you can show the schools who you are as a person in other ways (essays and interviews critical here)

hey @MadmaxDPT !

I just want to say that my stats were way worse than yours (3.24 cum, ~3.47 pre-rec PTCAS), and I ended up getting into multiple physical therapy schools. However, I did have more observation hours but that's only because I worked as a PT aide for awhile before applying. I feel that you'll be fine with your stats, and a lot of schools are looking for people who have more in-patient hours -- but I didn't apply to any of the schools that you're thinking about either. What the others have said about calling schools is a great idea; to be honest, I tanked orgo 1 and 2 and did okay in gen chem 2 (B); still got in though. You are definitely better off than I was! Also go to the GRE/Extras/Stats thread and read what people have to say about getting into those schools. best of luck with the upcoming cycle! we're all rooting for you

Thanks a lot @daphersDPT , that's great to hear. And congrats on getting in. What are some of the schools you applied to? if you don't mind me asking. Right now I'm thinking I should stay in Florida in case anything happens with the bar, but I am curious about other schools that might be worth applying to.

hey @MadmaxDPT
so I thought it might be easier to just post my stats here 🙂 I'm from the Maryland/DC/Virginia area so that was my main focus for schools. I did a lot of research about the average acceptance GPA and stats before I applied because I was so nervous about my GPA being so low. Let me know if I can help you with any questions you might have!

I am close to one of the PT professors at Armstrong State. They told me they accept most students from the early app cycle and majority Georgia residents. Also, I just got into Indiana State with a 3.15/3.5. You will get in somewhere. Good luck!

You'll be fine if you interview well.
