Hey guys,

My GPA is 3.3 and BCMP is 3.1 (upward trend). I have decent EC activities including research, clinical experience, and other things. I am taking the MCAT in about 2 weeks and have been scoring in high 20s and hoping for a 30 on the exam. If I get a 27, do I have a realistic chance at a school in America?

I have turned in primaries already and will be done with my application on September 21st (day I receive my MCAT score).

I have applied to the following MD schools:

Temple
Rosalind Franklin
Drexel
UMDNJ-Newark
UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson
Albany
Thomas Jefferson

DO:
UMDNJ-SOM
LECOM
PCOM
New England COM
Ohio University
Touro COM (New York)
New York COM (NYIT)

I just want to know if I have any shot at these schools with a 27? Thanks and good luck to everyone applying!

If you score 27, you will have some chances at DO...Your chance at MD will be very slim.

With a 3.3/27, your chance at MD would be in the 20-25% range (and about 28-32% with a 3.3/30) if you applied early in the cycle. I'm sorry to say that with such a late application, that chance will be reduced from the range I provided. An application submitted on 9/21 historically has taken about 5.5 weeks to get the transcripts verified through AMCAS, so MD schools probably wouldn't see your application until the end of October.

Your chances at DO are better, and your application, relatively speaking, won't be so "late" in the DO cycle.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the honest opinion. I have already turned in my primaries about 2 weeks ago so I should be verified in 2 more weeks? (according to some excel spread sheet going on SDN). I am hoping I get secondaries before September and I can send most, if not all, before MCAT score comes.

I am defiantly really late in the cycle, but I just didn't want to regret not applying this year. Does anyone know any specific about the DO schools I have already applied to? I know LECOM has one of the biggest classes and is more accepting of late applicants. UMDNJ, I might have a decent chance since I am from the south jersey area. More comments appreciated. Thanks !
