Hey folks, long time reader, first time poster. I'm currently a senior at UCSD in my last year, graduating this June. I plan on taking a year off from school to hopefully gain experience in the pharmacy setting (retail or hospital, no preference at the moment) as well as gain some extra money to help fund the tuition.

I'm slated to get my B.S. in human biology with a psychology minor. Overall GPA is around a 3.65 (hoping to get to a 3.7 before graduation), the upper-division science GPA is higher, I believe in the 3.7s-3.8s. I have no current experience in a pharmacy, though I'm trying to get a volunteer job or even a clerk position at a local pharmacy. As far as extracurriculars, I have two years under my belt as an executive board member for an on-campus cultural club, as well as heading up committees for numerous events. I currently do research at a lab, and have some TA experience (again I'm hoping to get more before I graduate).

Now that I got that out of the way, I plan on only applying to California schools, and thus will not be taking the PCATs. My top choices are UCSF and UCSD, respectively. Now, realistically, what are my chances of getting into these schools (I mean really getting in, not just being "competitive")? Since I'm applying to so few schools (these potentially being the only two), I guess I'd like to know my realistic chances and be ready for a letdown if one is forthcoming.

Thanks in advance!

I'm a current first year pharmacy student so I can give you my advice, but it's just that. Your GPA looks pretty good. I got interviews with both schools with a lower GPA. I also didn't have any pharmacy experience, but I had hospital experience. Your extracurricular activities look good, and you've had research. I didn't have any research. You also come from UCSD, and the majority of people at UCSF are from the UC system. I know that UCSF weights heavily upon the supplemental application so I hope you took your time to do well on that ^_^ I wrote well so I think that helped me get interviews at both schools. Good luck 🙂

May I ask where you're going now?

Ooops I thought I mentioned it ^_^' I'm a first year pharmacy student at UCSF. I interviewed at both UCSD and UCSF, but I'm currently attending UCSF.

Would you post your stats chibipinkbunny?

Were you accepted to both places? And yes, would you mind posting stats as well? thank you much 🙂

off topic, did they finish remodeling Price Center yet?

i think your chances are pretty good getting into UCSF with that GPA. Of course, it will all depend on your performance in their rigorous supplemental process!

Studio Red, I go to UCSD and I'm a senior myself (Pharm Chem major). I just applied for the current cycle.

If you need a clerk position, please message me about it =) I don't think we have openings right now, but someone is leaving and I'm not sure if my boss plans on hiring to take her place.

Well I don't remember exactly but my GPA was a little over 3.6 I think, or maybe it was just 3.6, it was something like that. Did I get accepted to both? Ha, ha, well here's the thing. UCSF and UCSD have a common list and they can see who's accepted one or the other. They give you till the beginning of April to decide, but they told us that if you get your first choice school then don't wait. I got accepted into UCSF fairly early, March 1st, so I accepted like 30 minutes later. This happened before I received any kind of letter from UCSD. Well UCSD saw that I accepted UCSF so their letter to me mentioned that. Their letter was not clear, but it seemed like they rejected me because they saw I had already accepted UCSF's offer. So if I really wanted to find out if I was accepted, I should have held out and not accepted UCSF immediately. So I guess I'll never know if I was accepted to UCSD or not 🙄

haha, not quite. They've finished expanding the bookstore space, but all the other additions are still underway. Maybe by next quarter we'll start seeing the major changes, not sure.
