Hey guys-

I am wondering about my chances at UNC. I am out of state, and I know their acceptance rate is dismal for OOS. Here are my stats:

3.88 sGPA
3.96 cGPA
33R MCAT, with a relatively even distribution
70 hrs. of hospital volunteering
50ish hrs. of shadowing with 2 different docs

I don't have any research, but I am nontrad and have 2 degrees, 1 in biology and 1 in French. I also speak 3 languages and served in the military for a while. Plus I have a compelling reason for applying here (my husband is getting transferred to NC for work).

PS. All this is actually true, I'm not just yanking anyone's chain. PLEASE HELP!

I think you certainly have a shot. I mean, you already seem to know that the odds are stacked being OOS. But hey, you really want to apply it seems, and I say give it a shot. I think your nontrad could help you out.

lol? Have you posted before and been told you are lying? lol

No I haven't posted it before, but some ofit just sounds weird when you put it all together. Plus I have seen other people post stuff that HAD to be made up. Like, "what are my chances? I have a 45S, a 4.0, 300 hours of volunteering, and I cook dinner for homeless people every night" Yeah right, sure you did, you know???

lol.

Why not wake forest or duke? With those stats you would have a lot better chance (statisitically speaking), considering the fact they are private schools. Btw, I am not going to speak on behalf of UNCs preference, but a friend of mine interviewed there, and they kept bringing up his lack of research (he was non-trad too).

In 2008-2009 UNC matriculant median stats were 3.73 and 33 so you're in good shape there. There were 2949 out of state applicants. Of those, 101 were interviewed. Of those, 25 were accepted to a class of 160 total members.

I'm going to try for Wake too, but UNC is closer to where the new job will be. As for Duke... C'mon, are you serious??? Just kidding, but I really don't think I would stand a chance there. Their averages are way above mine...

And from what I hear, their secondary is something you probably don't want to do lol

your academic stats look great but your clinical experience is lacking and the no research might hurt but the fact you served in the military and have degrees might help......good luck 👍.
