Chances? cGPA 3.81 BCMP 3.65

Clarify please: Is the GPA calculation including both Bio grades? It's the only GPA that matters for MD schools.

Do well on the MCAT, and it looks like your app is a pretty good one. If your sGPA is lower than 3.6-ish you might have a little more trouble, but it's not like it's a deal breaker. Can't really give good input to the schools in your region, so hopefully somebody else chimes in for that.

Good luck.

You look like you're in good shape (assuming you'll do well on the MCAT:xf:)

I suggest applying to every public in-state school, as well as a bunch of others, since the application process is so fluky.

In case you'd like to mull over some numbers, here is the 09-10 MSAR data:

Yea both the grades are included in the calculation otherwise it's a little higher.

BCMP is also not my "sGPA" I just literally have the pre-reqs (bio1,bio2,chem1,chem2,orgo1,orgo2,calc1,calc2,physics..) no other bio subjects, chem, physio, anatomy etc in it otherwise it would be around a 3.73* sGPA.

Also, thank you for the feedback to both of you 🙂

Wait, wait...ALL BCPM classes count in your science/math GPA calculation, not just the prereqs. Am I understanding you correctly? You are including only prereqs in your calculations?

Yeah, but he just said that if he'd take upper-level electives into account, it would be even higher. Regardless, the sGPA/BCPM is pretty decent.

Right...I got that. My point is that the OP should be calculating the GPA how AMCAS will calculate it. What's the point of doing it any other way? If the BCPM is 3.73, that's obviously a good thing for the OP.

With your cGPA of 3.81: And an
MCAT score of 28, NYMC is in your target zone.
MCAT 29, add SUNY Upstate and Buffalo.
MCAT 30, Add SUNY Downstate and Albany.
MCAT 31, add Stonybrook.
MCAT 32, add Einstein, Rochester.
MCAT 33, add NYU.
And with a 35, add Columbia, Cornell, and Mt Sinai.

That's not to say you shouldn't add some dream schools even if your MCAT score makes a certain school a reach for you, if you feel their mission is in accord with the qualities demonstrated by your extracurriculars.

I think that's the way my committee application is reviewing the BCMP. Just the required classes, that's why I did it this way.

Also, thank you Catalystik for the list of schools. I feel a little bit more at ease now but obviously aiming for the highest I can score on the MCAT. I will probably stick closer to a state school just because of the expenses..
