You should get some interviews, even with the low GPA, since you did well on the MCAT.

I'm just wondering how your cumulative GPA is only a 3.09? My states/undergraduate/post-bac grades were pretty much identical to yours and my cumulative GPA went from a 2.6 to 3.3

I might have had a lot more undergrad hours than you which weighted down my gpa more. Other than that I have no idea what it could be. Are you applying this cycle?

I think you'll get some interviews. I had a better GPA than you with a similar MCAT, and I got interviews. You've proven that you can do better with improved graduate level GPA, so I think they'll consider that. Plus, you have a good explanation for the low undergrad grades. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the feed back! How much higher was your GPA?

Well, I graduated summa with a 4.0 in my major. HOWEVER, as I said, you've definitely proven you can pull those kinds of grades in graduate work, and you have a good reason for what happened in undergrad. Plus, you earned a decent MCAT score. Mine was actually a 28O (don't ask what happened with writing; I have no idea). I think you'll get some interviews, at which point you're on the same playing field as all the other invites.

More importantly, you probably won't have any need to worry about keeping up if you are accepted. You've proven you can pull the grades, and it sounds like you've achieved some hard-won maturity. I've done well in med school and have had a fantastic time; failure hasn't been a concern at all.

I'm from TX as well, so I do know a bit about the TX interview circuit.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I hope you are right! I just want to get into an MD program so I can start on an even playing field with everyone and see what my new self can do. 🙂
