Hey guys, yeah another one of those threads 🙄

GPA- 3.91

DAT Scores:

AA- 21
TS- 20
Bio- 20
GC- 21
OC- 20
RC- 22
QR- 22
PA- 20

Quick overview of stats:

21 years old, married for 11 months. CA resident. Completed Cellular/Molecular biology degree in 3 years at a very small private liberal arts school.

Work experience: Previous 1.5 years at EHR company as product specialist. Private tutoring/swim lessons. Currently a summer teacher for elementary math/english.

My ECs are not extraordinary- Church volunteering, assistant swim coach at college for last spring semester, peer tutor.

Research- Two semesters, wrote an abstract and had poster displayed at
the 2012 West Coast Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Conference.

Shadowing- Roughly 50-60 hours of general dentistry.

Expecting good letters of recommendation but it will probably be another 1-2 weeks before they get sent out.

Okay so my real concern is getting this whole application sent off ASAP. My transcripts were not sent off for a long time because of various issues. But they have finally been received.

I was really struggling with my PS. I don't usually have an issue writing but when it comes to writing about myself I get writers block. I have a draft finished and I've been trying to improve it. My mom 🙂p) says it comes off as kind of "wordy" and not super consistent. I've sent it off to the people who have offered to review PS here and a couple of you have replied saying either it's okay or they will look at it later (thank you so much to those who are taking time to do this for everyone).

In the midst of applying I have been trying to find another job because my current one ends in a couple weeks (summer teacher). So I'm pretty stressed and nervous about spending so much money on the application when the financial future looks so bleak.

I'm applying to:

1. ASDOH AZ
2. Midwestern AZ
3. Loma Linda
4. UCSF
5. UOP
6. UCLA
7. USC
8. Western (CA)
9. University of Nevada
10. Baylor (a long shot I know)

I feel like maybe I should pick some schools other than only CA ones but it's hard to decide which ones. Any input?

So applying by early next week, any chances of getting pre-december interviews? Really kicking myself for not getting this done sooner but life has been hectic as I'm sure a lot of you know.

I appreciate any feedback. I know some of you are sitting there with completed applications with nothing to do but repeatedly check email and SDN
😛

(If anyone else would be willing to help with my PS that would be fantastic, I can PM or email it immediately).

You definitely have a chance! Your GPA and DAT will compensate for turning your AADSAS a little later than what is considered early. I think it is possible that you can get a a few pre-December interviews, but I recommend that you apply to a few out-of-state as you mentioned. It really depends what you are looking for in terms of your dental education. Man, there are so many schools to choose from. I know there's a thread somewhere at the very top that may be very helpful for you regarding which dental schools to choose from. You can pretty much apply anywhere you want given your stats as long as they are out-of-state friendly. If you need help with your PS, just lmk. Good luck to you. Btw, ASDOH recommends that you have a lot of community service hours. I personally talked to a representative during a grad school fair. So, that's why I didn't apply there.

I can't believe you are even asking what your chances are with almost a 4.0 and reasonable DAT scores.

I think you just want reaffimation of what you already know......I will humor you..OF COURSE!!! You have done very well my friend you have a great shot. Congrats on the marriage as well!!! See you in the future doc!!!!

fishing for compliments. whats new.

Honestly I'm just so freaked out by this process that I can't convince myself it's going to work out, severe case of SDNitis. 🙄

The future is just too important to not get every shred of advice and feedback possible, no matter how good DAT/GPA may be. I'd rather know I tried as hard as I could then end up waiting another cycle because I missed something.

Good luck to everyone else, looking forward to a future when we are done and can help out the next wave 👍

i think you should prolly apply to a bunch of schools to be safe, defintly above 20 schools. its gonna be expensive but its worth the couple thousand you should spend
