  1. Pre-Podiatry
I have a quick question for anyone who can help me out. I have a 2.95 gpa and I've already completed my application process. Unfortunately I send off my application before I found out my MCAT score and I ended up making a 16 on the test. I know I most likely should retake the test, but is there any way I might have a chance since I have very good letters of recommendation and lots of volunteering hrs?!! thank you for your help!

Chances are extremely low!

Retake the MCAT!

I agree with Ferocity! Retake the MCAT... try to aim for as high as you can. A 21 or higher may suffice. Good luck!

So with a higher MCAT, would he still be able to get in even with his below 3.0 GPA?

Acceptances are determined on a case by case basis. It all depends on the trend. The admission committee basically just wants to make sure the applicant can handle the rigors of podiatric medical school.

Why is your gpa so low and how are you going to manage a curriculum that is FAR more rigorous?

I also agree with everyone. With a 16 MCAT, gaining admission to any school will be difficult. If you were to couple your gpa with a decent MCAT (>23), you could probably gain admission to a couple schools. But like said before, admission is determined on a case to case basis. If your history does not show an upward trend signifying increasing maturity, it could be slightly detrimental. Admissions are getting slightly more competitive each year which is good. Study hard and score well on the MCAT 🙂

With a 2.95 GPA and a 16 MCAT you might have a chance of getting in, especially if you retake the MCAT and get a better score. However, getting in does not mean you will graduate or even make it through the 1st semester or get a residency down the road. If your overall GPA is a 2.95 then is your science GPA any good? You have to consider if you are prepared for a more intense curriculum. Some of the schools will accept you just to give you a shot and then see what happens. If this is something you truly want to do and you do get in you have to be prepared to really step up your game. Best of luck.

I agree with you that if he/she were to take the MCAT again, there would be a chance of an acceptance depending on how early the application is submitted. But I really do believe that with a score of 16, there is very little to no chance of acceptance. And to reiterate what was already said, with a low cGPA, (assuming) lower sGPA, and an extremely low MCAT, it would be smart to think over your ability and dedication to the tough curriculum. It would be terrible to find yourself overwhelmed to the point of dropping out and acquiring unnecessary debt.
