Hi! Officially I'm new to SDN but have been using these forums as my guide to navigating post-bacc programs and the application process. As such, was hoping to hear from some of you experienced students about my chances for acceptance. Listed below are my stats, as well as where I've applied. Thanks for your insight!

Schools under consideration
-Bryn Mawr
-Goucher
-Johns Hopkins
-Temple
-NYU
-UPenn
-Tufts
-Columbia
-Harvard Extension School

Stats
-Communications undergrad, Summa Cum Laude (good marketing school for those of you who are unfamiliar)
-Top 10% ACT/SAT scores
-120 observation hours in physical therapy; 20 hours in interventional radiology
-Started volunteering at a local (NYC) hospital last month, as well as accepted two research positions.. one with a nonprofit and another with a hospital.

My concern is that my clinical experience only started this past October (2012) - I had major surgery, which delayed my ability to start volunteering/observing. SO nervous about hearing back from schools.

Hi there and welcome! You'll find a ton of useful information on these forums. You seem to be in pretty much the same position that I was in several months ago.

Obviously there's no guarantee for anything, but your stats seem pretty good and as long as you have valid reasons for switching to medicine from communications, I think you have a pretty good shot in getting in to at least several of the schools on your list. I also didn't have too much clinical experience (and I've received offers from several of the schools on your list..I didn't apply to all of those though). As long as you can demonstrate that medicine isn't just a fallback (i.e. it's something that you've really considered in detail), you should be fine.

Feel free to PM me if you want more detailed info about my application or if you have any questions that you don't want to post publicly.

Thanks, bakagal! I appreciate the insight - I may PM you about a couple specific questions I have as well. 🙂
