I suffered a personal tragedy in my freshman year that took a toll on my grades (when I took Gen Chem I and II, as well as my math courses). However, since then, I retook Chem I (with an A) and Chem II (with a B+). I also got straight A's in Bio I and II, Organic Chem I and II, Biochem, Cell Biology and Neuroscience, and two 4.0 semesters. I also have a publication coming out based on my research, and I am continuing to conduct research with my current lab. Do you guys think this upward trend will be considered, or will they scrap my application based on the numbers I present? Without freshman year, both my science and overall GPAs would be around 3.76.

Also, I am a NJ resident, so how do my chances look for RUSDM?

Edit: Should I be concerned about chem and reading?

Damn, nice bio score. According to the ADEA guide, Rutgers interviews about 40% of the in-state applicants. I am also NJ resident, and our stats are similar (I have a higher GPA, but you have a higher TS). Rutgers is at the top of my list, but I'm certainly not banking on an interview, which is why I applied broadly. If you look at the ADEA guide, their average GPA is much higher than yours, but your DAT is above average. Ultimately, SDN members cannot accurately "chance" you because averages are not terribly descriptive. However, looking at the data, I believe we both have a shot at an interview; we just need to be patient.

Hoping for the best!

As Mufasha said, very tough to "chance".. esp with limited appl info, but Rutgers faculty had personally told me to mention in my personal statement about my personal struggles I went through, so maybe try to fit that in there somewhere if you have not already applied.. DAT- you killed it dont worry about GC or RC, from what I gathered from Dr. Chaviano it sounds like TS AA and PAT is highest on their list, GPA- sounds like your ok because it sounds like you had such a good upward trend which she did mention to the rutgers grad school students as being important.. I think this goes without saying but she does bring up office experience anytime I've heard her talk (dental assisting, shadowing ONE general dentist for the bulk of your shadowing hours).. annnnnnnnnnd your a nj resident so your chance of getting an interview last year would have been 145 out of 342 nj residents with 68 of those 145 getting in. GL to everyone applying to RSDM, its my number 1 choice so I'll be here stressing with you

Keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!

Holy crap it's a necromancer!

I just got into Rutgers this last session, and it seems like they valued a couple different things depending on who you were. In my case they valued that I am an artist with a really eclectic background and great test scores.

It sounds like, from reading some of the other posts on these threads, that that's the formula for getting into Rutgers. It helps to be something interesting, and you have to have high test scores and a good haircut. Dr Chaviano said that they wanted people who were well rounded.
