Hello, everyone!
I'm new to SDN and would greatly appreciate your input! I'll be finishing up my 3rd year in a few months with no red flags during clerkships, although I do have a very low Step1 score at 199. I've been interested in family medicine since I entered medical school and am now fully committed to this path, though I will admit my test score terrifies me. The average Step1 score on AAMC appears to be 217 for FM, which is substantially higher than what I scored. Additionally, I only achieved a "pass" in the FM clerkship. I have yet to take Step2 CK/CS.

A little more about me:
1. USMD
2. No "red flags" during medical school in terms of course/clerkship failures
3. Some research, but nothing too impressive
4. Consistent leadership experience

I have no preference on residency location and will definitely be applying broadly. Can anyone give me their opinion on my chances of matching and perhaps how many programs I should be applying to? Any advice would be so appreciated and thank you for your time.

Charting outcomes show that around 93% of people (both with red flags and without) who scored a 199 matched FM. If you have no red flags (I would argue a 199 step 1 isn't considered one), the odds are heavily in your favor.

You passed, have no red flags, have extracurricular activities, and even did research. 100% as long as you don't mess up somewhere and apply very broadly.
