Do you have better chances of an MD acceptance to a university if you've been accepted to the university's PhD program already? And also, if you get accepted to each program separately, do most universities have a process for combining these acceptances to enroll you into their MD/PhD program or MSTP? Thanks.

Q1: No

Q2: Yes, but no guarantee of acceptance

Your chances go down. MD programs don't want to cannibalize other programs' candidates. If you want an MD or MD/PhD, you have to go through the same hoops as everyone else. MCAT, GPA, ECs.

Being accepted to a PhD program and then trying to leverage that into an MD acceptance is a futile exercise.

Concur strongly. Both programs are committments, and your choices raise issues with your motivation for either.
