I'm still an undergraduate student that got bamboozled this semester, so it looks like I'll have to find a job to pay my tuition in the Spring(or at least make bank loans to myself and build credit to make student loans in my name).

I know there are probably many variables affecting, but my question is how easy/hard is it to get hired by an OD doing whatever job(anything from filing papers to answering phones)? What employees work under ODs other than secretaries and opticians?

Thanks

try working for a small office. That way, you will get to do a little of everything. You still have to file and answer phones but you will get to do a lot more than just doing "one" job.

I found a job pretty easy at a doctors office next to a lencrafters. It was really great. I verified insurances, took apts, did preliminary examinations, taught patients how to wear contacts, etc.. just fill out an application and you should be ffine.

YOu might try an Ophthalmologist too. Maybe he/she will let you see retinas or you could try an OD who does specialty... Low Vision, Vision Therapy. That might look impressive in your application.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Well I got to shadow an OD for the first time yesterday and it was great.

odstudent, you're right about it being fairly easy to find employment at an OD's office. The only problem is the OD I shadowed needs an optometric technician(who he's willing to train) full time and I don't want to take a whole semester off to work. I'm sure I can find others that are willing to work with my schedule.

Thanks again.
