I am applying for dental school this for Fall 2012 and would really like to know where i stand. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙂

My current GPA is a 3.3 and my science GPA is 3.4

I am currently shadowing a dentist.

Other volunteer activities:

*I have taught Sudanese immigrants how to read, write, and speak basic english.
* My local church has food drives for the homeless (i am an active participant).
* I am in the dental club at my university
* I have prior hospital volunteer experience
* I have worked at a medical lab for 3 years now.

I am currently studying for my DATS and i want to know what score I should shoot for in order to be more competitive.

Thank you so much!

few other things you can do to help your chances are: apply early June, try your best to have the dat taken early June.... ITS NOT A DEATH SENTENCE IF YOU DON'T, but try ur best to have it done by early June.

How many schools you aiming at?

And as far as what DAT score you should aim at? this is a strange question.... if you had a choice between a 19 or 25, which one would you choose? thats basically what your asking...

And also there are other things that you can control BASED on your numbers.... for example, how many schools you apply to can be linked to how strong your numbers are.

If your someone with 3.3/3.4 and 20AA... you might wanna apply to more schools than someone whos packing a 3.9 and 23AA..... So lets wait to see how your DATs come out and then we'll think about how competitive you are and what you can do to improve ur odds.

Best of luck on ur test

I understand it takes a couple of weeks for LORs, transcripts, and DAT scores to verify or get sent to AADSAS.

If you take the DAT in early june (say june 1), when will your application be officially complete? when will dental schools actually look at it?

For this year's cycle... the first batch of applications was sent out (If I remember correctly) was Friday June 18th (approx 2-3 weeks after application opened up). The next batch was next friday.... they usually send batches every week on fridays.

IMO, being on the first, 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th batch is still considered "early"...

If you finish the dat on june 1st and apply early june... my guess is your application will be on the 2nd to 3rd batch (late June).

**EDIT** It might have been June 25th (also friday) for first batch this past cycle... don't remember exactly
