Female Caucasian, Ohio resident

cGPA: 3.47
sGPA: 3.28

MCAT: taking 2 weeks from today (yikes) with practice test scores I am expecting anywhere from a 29-34. Huge gap and not helpful, I know. But if anyone has any insight as to were my MACT needs to be since my GPAs are on the low side for MD schools that would be great

ECs:
300+ hours of volunteering at the hospital near my school

150+ hours of shadowing physicians both MD and DO

Full time medical assistant at an OB/GYN practice during school breaks

job tutoring freshman biology students for 2 years now

undergraduate teaching assistant for biology lab for 1 semester
on the club rowing team for over a year

a member of the premedical advisory board. Basically helping advisors plan evens and mentoring younger students

2 years of undergraduate research-received a large research award/grant for this summer. hoping to have my name on a paper by the time I graduate.

If anyone has any insight to where I should apply, and if I have and hope at an MD school or if I should be expecting DO. Thanks!!

Really nice, comprehensive ECs. Well done.

Tell me more about your BCPM GPA/sGPA. Why is it low? Have you had a recent upward grade trend? What upper-level Bio/Biochem have you taken and what grades did you earn? Are the stated GPAs including this current term, or might they change in the next month?

What year of school are you completing now?

My low sGPA can be attributed mostly 2 grades. My sophomore year I got a C in gen chem I first semester and a C- in Physics II second semester. I did re take the physics and got an A, but that grade still haunts me :/. Other than that just a lot of Bs in science classes. Upper level bio includes genetics (B+) and Physiology (B+). Orgo I got a B 1st semester and I am hoping for and A this semester.

I don't really know what kind of trend I would say I have
Freshman year
1st semester: 3.30
2nd semester: 4.0

Sophomore Year:
1st: 3.04
2nd: 3.16

Junior
1st: 3.37
2nd: 3.67 (expected, finals start monday)

I am not sure if I would call this a downward trend, but its not an upward one either. Basically a weak sophomore year due to pilling on the ECs and upping my class load. A learning experience in time management.

So far my school lists include every school in Ohio, MSU both MD and DO, CCOM, Rush, Rosalyn Franklin, Loyola, Albany, Tufts, UK, Erie. Would definitely love any input to this list tho.

Is the sGPA you gave in the first post figured by AMCAS rules (all math and science) or by AACOMAS rules (no math and only the retake included, not the original C- in Physics)?

I wouldn't call it a trend, I'd call it a roller coaster, but at least you'll end on an upnote. Have you considered waiting a year to do more GPA repair before applying?

Tufts?
And, have you checked the OOS price tag for MSU?

that GPA is my AAMCAS gpa, C- and math are included

Yes I am. I am not sure that my sGPA will change very much with it though, because they do not include math. I have an A in a 5 credit hour math class so not having that included will work against me a little.

haha yea Tufts was a long shot. More interested in their SMP program as an option. And yes I have seen those price tags, but no one has ever accused medical school of being cheap right? I have some pretty strong family connections to MSU, so its on the list.

I am pretty set on applying this cycle pending a good mcat, but obviously if it came down to it I would apply again with a higher GPA next year or do an SMP, whatever it takes.
