How important are LORs? I went to a caribb school, and have been in a hospital doing rotations where I cant get the best letters of recs. I am currently f/ 229/95 on step 1 (taken in June 08) and about to write step 2. I am a US citizen, and graduated rank 1 from my school with all honors in all my rotations so far. Thanks!

Your chances to match stand at 89.7% today. 😎 On a serious note, nobody can tell you what your chances will be. It seems like you have good grades and good board scores. Luckily neurology isn't competitive at this moment. LOR are quite important, especially if you are trying to get into one of the top programs. If you are just looking to match any where, I can say you stand a very very good chance of matching somewhere. It all depends on how your interviews turn out and how you present yourself during them. Just try to get some strong LOR, do well on your interview and you will be fine. Good luck.

I'd say you have a very good chance to match at a decent place. I know people with much lower board scores than yours who matched at nice programs. Good luck.

This probably isn't the response you are looking for, but I would highly recommend "Iserson's Getting into a Residency: A guide for medical students." This was highly recommended to my as a MSI and it has been very helpful. It will basically answer any and every question you have about applying to residency. There is a very nice section on LOR. You can pick the book up used for a few bucks. I think it would be well worth your money and time.
