Hi.

University of Minnesota Twin Cities: Genetics, Cell Biology and Development Major, English minor.
gpa: 4.0
science gpa:4.0
MCAT: 40S 14BS 13PS, 13VR

3,000 volunteer hours: Playroom coordinator on pediatric diabetes floor, er volunteer, therapy dog work, International Diabetes Center volunteer (office stuff).
160 hours of shadowing (er, peds endo, surgery)
3 years of research in type 1 diabetes and genetics, 1 publication
President of U of M Students for Diabetes Awareness and Advocacy, 2 years
Medical Mission to Zambia for 4 weeks (taking vitals, weights)
Was a counselor at a diabetes camp for 2 weeks for 4 summers

Problem: When i was in high school i took college courses, however I withdrew from three, and got a D in the fourth. I didnt transfer any of these courses to my degree. I was struggling with an eating disorder at the time involving manipulation of insulin (i have t1 diabetes). Also, my first semester as a freshman I withdrew from 15 credits to seek intensive treatment for my eating disorder. Wondering how negatively this will impact gpa and my chances at med schools...
I want to apply to Harvard, UCSF, UCLA, Einstein, Mayo, U of Minnesota...etc
Chances? Thanks.

The D will show up, so you ought to factor that in. Sounds like you have an explanation for that and the withdrawals. Everything else looks pretty amazing. 3,000 hours? crazy.

It seems like you have a legit excuse for your academic struggles, so most AdComs won't hold that against you.

On the other hand, I'm gonna guess that all those courses will be on your AMCAS application. Since you have done extremely well in school since then, I wouldn't worry too much about this issue. It might keep you out of a few of the schools you mentioned, but I'm certain you can get into some top-notch programs.
