Hey everyone, here it goes.
Just graduated college with a degree in Psychology. Doing a post bacc program this fall. It's looking like I'll have a 3.25-3.3 cum gpa, with a 3.47 science gpa. Havent taken the MCAT yet. Very good ECs, including a year of research, varsity athlete, lots of shadowing and volunteering with lots of patient interaction. Good upward trend in my gpa...didn't really know what I wanted to do in life until my junior or senior year, and dealt with the loss of my mother my freshmen year. Chances for MD?

Do well in your post-bacc and you'll be able to become a lot more competitive. What post-bacc did you get into btw ( just out of curiosity). Just to add your current 3.3 & 3.5 is decent for DO schools as long as you get a score in the high 20's or higher.

The post bacc definitely seems like a good idea, the undergrad GPA is a little low though for MD as anyone will tell you, it would take a stellar MCAT to balance that out.

If you wouldn't mind DO perhaps you could go back and retake some of the classes you did poorly in, another year of undergrad classes could certainly bring up your GPA. Ok EC's, but nothing that couldn't be worked on. Without knowing your MCAT it's hard to say right now

This is the best I've got, I know some of the more senior mods will enlighten you further.

Historically, those applying with a 3.3 through AMCAS had rates of acceptance as follows: With an MCAT of 29=27.2%, with a 32=39.7%, and with a 35=51.3%

If you can raise your cGPA further through additional postbac work to, say, 3.5, then those rates of acceptance would increase to 38.6%, 56.9%, and 68.3% respectively.

Whatever your MCAT score turns out to be, it would make your chance of becoming a physician higher if you include some DO schools on your list.

If the OP does mind DO, he/she doesn't need to go back and retake classes. His/Her GPAs are ok for DO. Needs only a 27+ MCAT. A 3.3 cGPA and 3.47 sGPA are good for DO schools.
