Hello Everyone,

I'm sure there have been plenty of these posts in the past, but I am curious of my chances of obtaining an interview/acceptance into an optometry school.

I just took my OAT yesterday (8/6/2010) and received the following scores:

QR: 300
RC: 280
BIO: 350
G CHEM: 320
O CHEM: 280 (Have yet too take O Chem in college)
PHYS: 320

TS: 320
AA: 310

Additional information: I have a 3.96 GPA and almost 100 hours (110+ patients observed) of shadowing optometrists (3 O.D.'s at 2 two different offices).

The schools that I have decided to apply for (through OptomCas) are NOVA, SCO, UAB, ICO, and PCO (I do plan on calling these schools and asking what they recommend, but I am curious as to what you think - I know some, if not many, schools want a 300+ in all categories, thus the reason for this post)

Any opinions/questions/recommendations/etc. would be excellent. Thank you.

WOW, that's a FANTASTIC GPA!!! Here's my opinion, and remember, this is only an opinion.

I applied to several of the schools you applied to last year. I had a couple below the 300 mark as well. My gpa isn't nearly as good as yours (3.3) but nevertheless, I didn't get in. I applied to UAB, NOVA, SCO, PCO, and SUNY. I believe, with your gpa, you should probably get an interview. Probably not to all the schools, but to maybe one. SCO and SUNY told me straight up, if I have anything below a 300, I won't get in. UAB and NOVA told me the same thing, but in a nicer way. PCO was somewhere in between. However, with your GPA, I believe they'd let a sub-300 score slide, BUT, I don't know if they would allow 2 sub-300's to slide. I would assume that you'd get in with 1 sub-300, but not 2. Just my opinion, but good luck in the process!!!!

Thank you both very much for you're opinions and links - much appreciated. I am slightly worried because of the two sub 300's - the RC was just an unfortunate score for me and, as I stated, I have yet to take a semester/course of Organic Chemistry. I am hoping with my extra-/co-curricular experience and activities, and GPA (I've always done better in a class than in standardized tests, unfortunately), that I will get an interview - application time! Thanks again.
