I am currently a registered pharmacist and work for a large chain. I have been a pharmacist for 15 years and I am frankly sick of the corporate world and how it has taken over the true meaning of being a pharmacist for me. I am looking into going to med school and specializing in derm. This would be a big change for me but I want to continue to help people without the corproate BS. Does anyone know how many years of school I would need? Any other advice/comments would be greatly appreciated..

4 years med school + 4 years residency.
You may also need to take some prereqs before med school.

Derm is very competitive and there is a really good chance you will not match. Make sure you are interested in other specialties as well.

I'm not sure, but I would imagine that you would have to take some undergrad course work and then the MCAT, naturally, followed by four years of medical school and then, assuming that you get a derm spot (which is never a foregone conclusion), four more years.

Even at that you very well may not succeed in your primary goal (getting away from the corporatization of healthcare).

That is a long time without income and asking to accrue significant amounts of debt for an uncertain payout in the end. I would think long and hard prior to undertaking this, personally... and would look at changing positions to work for a smaller established pharmacy.
