Change in resources/Step 1?

Just a quick question

Do you guys know how much change has been in the Step 1 over the past 3-4 years as well as changes in the resources (FA, Kaplan, Rapid Review, etc), over the same period?

I'm trying to figure out books and stuff; however, I'm not sure if the extra bucks for this year's edition is worth it compared to 2014 or even earlier.

I don't think Step 1 itself has changed significantly in content over the past few years. I think the newer editions of books get more accurate in terms of what is likely to show up on Step 1 simply because each year they get more input from more recent test takers. Obviously more data points = more accurate (or at least more precise) data.

FA should be 2014 or newer if you're taking step 1 this summer. Just my opinion.. based on no actual evidence that it will affect your score significantly.

Kaplan depends on what you're talking about. Lots of people use those old kaplan videos that are floating around on the internet (I don't, because that's illegal). I purchased Kaplan qbank though. Many of the questions say "last updated" anywhere from 2010 to late 2014, and many of the questions are the same as those from 2012 and 2013 (based on "last updated").

The current edition of Goljan RR Path contains significantly more information compared to the previous edition. Whether or not it is "high yield" information remains to be seen, however of all the step 1 resources out there I'm confident when I say that the most significant difference between the two newest editions of any book is RR Path.

Often the way that they update these sources is by asking that year's test takers what showed up on their exam and then including it in their review material. In that way, high yield = showed up on an exam at some point in time. Not sure what the criteria is for deciding when high yield material becomes low yield and subsequently gets removed from the review source.

How does GOljan RRpath compare to Pathoma? Can I safely substitute Pathoma instead of Goljan?
