I'm a freshman astronomy major. As a sophomore, however, I have the option to apply for an interdisciplinary studies major. The major I had in mind was neurobiological sciences. Both majors just about equally interest me and the neuro major does come with a research requirement (for credit). Should I change majors? Thanks.

having a research background will make you a strong applicant for med school 🙂 if you later on have the chance to publish your work in a journal or present at a research synposium it's a huge plus 🙂 i say changing your major to the one that you equally love as atronomy is excellent 😀

I was a neuro major, and I really loved the field - it's exciting, challenging, and constantly changing. If you love them both, try to explore both a little bit more. If you're worried about the research requirement, you can do as much research in both fields as you'd like if you're persistant enough, so that shouldn't even factor into your decision. That is unless you're really dreading the research, in which case I'd say neuro is not the major for you.

Which undergrad are you at? I'm about to change my major to IDS Neurobiological Sciences as well. I find it extremely intriguing and since hands-on scientific research is important to me along with psychobiology, it seems to be the perfect fit major.

I'm at the University of Florida...same school as you

Consider taking a few classes before making any final decisions. If still in doubt, consider making it a minor or double major. Personally, if I could go back in time, I'd probably be in this conundrum as I both enjoy neuroscience and astrophysics.

I agree with the cation. Take a few classes, and if you enjoy it go for it. In the end, if you enjoy it and do well in it that is what is most important.
