Greetings--

New to the SDN community and I am happy to say there are a lot of resources here and great members too.

I am a non-traditional pre-dent candidate. I have a Bsc and Doctorate and now deciding to pursue Dentistry after careful discussions with peers/family/friends.

First things is first, preparing to take the DAT for the next 12 weeks since I have been out of school for ~4yrs. I have always been science super-fan so to speak and my gpa's in those areas will attest.
But will not take any chances on that and will go into this DAT prep with respect and hard work.

I wonder how many else are in the boat like me? I am 29, so might be at the end of the bell-curve for most 1st time Dent applicants. But dreams have a funny way of walking in anytime in your life sometimes.

Mee too!! Thinking about going into dentistry. Good luck studying for the DAT! I know nothing about dentistry and will have to start doing my research on it.

I am 29 myself... I just applied for the first time to dental schools this past June. I was a software engineer for 4 years.

trust me, there are ALOT of non-traditional applicants out there.... so many that pretty soon they will be changed to the "good-ole traditional oldies"

Im gonna make a guesstimation that about 10-20% of today's pre-dental applicants are non-traditional

It's good to hear that there are more of us around. I'm 27 now, but I just started my career change towards dentistry and I'll likely be 29 by the time I start *if* I can get in on the first shot. I have a masters and worked in the pharma industry for several years before deciding that I wanted to go into dentistry, so I understand how tough it is to decide to switch paths. It's tough because I'm female too and I have to really think about if I want to push off starting my family because of all this. Good luck to you!

I think that's a great story! I'm sure dental schools will love you! Best of luck!

I'm applying this cycle and just turned 30. I did not have a science background academically, but have always been a tremendously excited about how the world works. I did a postbac program at Tufts and have a magnificent time there.

As for the DATs, taking lots of practice exams is key. Review each question immediately after completing the exam or quiz. I'm sure you'll do great! 👍

Feel free to PM me anytime if you have questions. 🙂

lots of untrads around brojah. also check out USN, the dean told me they TARGET untrads. i believe detroit mercy does as well but not certain.

welcome to sdn.

I'm 29 and will be almost 31 by the time I finish my prereqs and apply. I'm taking bio and physics, with bio, physics, and chem next quarter. Best of luck
