Hmm.. perhaps this was mentioned in the 20 page thread on Cal Northstate, but I was wondering if you guys happen to notice the changes to this year's pre-req requirements. The school is now requiring Biochemistry or Cellular & Molecular Biology, an upper division class that is not offered at most JC's and combined physiology and anatomy classes together (you only have to take one). Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the GPA level also rise? Quite a few changes actually. 😕

I noticed that too yesterday when I looked at Cal North's website. Are you applying for the Fall 2009?

I was interested in applying, but now I don't know what the heck I am going to do. I have my bachelors degree in a non science subject, and am taking my pre-reqs at a junior college and they do not offer Biochemistry or Cellular & Molecular Biology. So now I am wondering how I am going be able to get that class taken care of. Even though it is only three credits, it still has to be taken. Any advice people?

Unfortunately, from what I understand, you have to full-filled C.N.'s requirements. Take both O-Chem classes first then see if you can get into a Biochem class at a university. I fought my way through Biochem department counselors at ASU for me to get permission to take Biochemistry since it is a 400 level course. Best of luck to you!

Not sure if you're from socal or not...SMC offers Biochem and PCC offers molec bio...

you're going to need to take ochem before getting into biochem at an university, unless you can petition your way in. if you are not a student at a university, it will be hard to find a jc that offers these classes.

Cell/Molecular bio is offered at santa ana collge, orance coast college, canyon valley college... and UCI, UCSD...Don't know which one is the most convenient for you but they all require prerequisite.

Is there any colleges up north that offer it? I am in northern California. Also, what are the pre-reqs for this course? Is Ochem one of them?

why don't you check the websites of the campuses around your area up in nor cal? i'm sure at least some campuses around you offer it

I always thought the min GPA is 2.5, but I might be wrong. I just remember it being pretty low. Does this school require a supplemental or do they invite you to fill one out like Touro?

where are you in nor cal? i live in sacramento and i can tell you that sacramento city college, american river college, cosumnes river college, and folsom lake college DO NOT offer biochemistry. You'll have to try Sacramento State University if you are near Sacramento.

I am near sacramento state.. i am going to have to try sac state because i sure as heck will not be paying so much of money at uop!

yea...def try sac state. i have friends there and they say biochem isn't that bad. but since you havent taken ochem, i suggest you take it at sac city. take chem 425/426 and that will cover your ochem requirements.
