Greeting from the pre-pharm board! Anyway, after a lot of personal interviews and research, I've come to the conclusion that pharmacy is in a bad spot and am investigating my other options in healthcare.

Dentistry interests me, so I had a couple of quick questions (I did search) about the field and education.

1) Does tuition show any sign of slowing down its growth?
2) Due to circumstances, I would only be applying to schools in Massachusetts. I see that there is tufts, harvard, and BU. Could anyone give me a quick recap on they're difficulty to attend/cost?
3) I would like to practive in NH or Maine if possible (very far ahead I know:laugh:), are these areas saturated?

Any other information anyone wishes to contribute to someone looking into the field is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your time!

What are your stats? DAT, GPA, ECs etc?

Haven't finished undergrad yet, just scoping the field out.

As it stands though:

GPA (general): 3.85
Class rank: 9

EC's: Academic tutor, Honor student, Philosophy Club VP, Alpha Chi honor society associate

I worked at CVS pharmacy over the summer and it killed my drive for that career (retail pharmacy is roughly 80% of the field), not to mention the general negativity of pharmacists.

I can't predict how I'll do on the DAT but I scored a semi decent 1910 on the SAT and have generally faired well with standardized tests.

You may want to look into UConn too. It's the only public dental school in New England, and they have preference/reduced tuition for New England and CT residents.

I went through the same process. I was originally pre-pharm, but shadowing ended that aspiration (not even considering the health of the feild). Don't worry, dentistry isn't that much more competitive.

I don't think the rate of tuition increase has shown any real sign of slowing.

Also, Turfts and BU are not as competitive as many other schools. Obviously, Harvard is difficult to get into.

Good luckt
