I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring out what to make of the number of "Contiguous Ranks" for a given specialty (General Surgery).
As I have it right now, my ROL has 17 ranks, but 11 distinct programs. This is because of those programs where I interviewed for a categorical position, I went ahead and ranked their prelim program as well. So 6 categorical invites=12 ranks, and 5 prelim invites makes the total 17.
I understand that there is more to the data than what's published, like interview performance and other various intangibles, but there is a huge difference in the data set and I just wanted to know if the number of contiguous ranks takes double-ranking into account.
