For those too lazy to sift through all the other crap in the thread...

At my hospital, there are two optometrists and several dentists who are considered part of the medical staff with fairly liberal, if not full, clinical privileges. Sorry, but an optometrist is nothing more than a glorified technician -- a sophisticated well-educated optician -- not a physician, yet they have RxPs in most states and hospital privis in some. I think dentists are well trained, but non OMFS dentists having attending status? If these practitioners, and others like NPs and DPMs can have attending status, why not competent PhD/PsyD psychologists?

I'm a psychiatrist, but I am not against working side-by-side with psychologists in hospitals. I worry about their training, but my guess is, most ethical and competent psychologists would never undertake any tx for which he/she feels he/she is not qualified.

My two cents...
Zack

Man, some people really just don't get it.

MDs are fully capable of providing all the healthcare needs of the population. The training and schooling is vastly superior and renders all other healthcare "professionals" to helper status at best.

anyone without a MD pretty much wasted four years of school and money for a fake doctorate degree and should be ashamed for thier audacity for trying to pose as a doctor to thier patients. only those with poor grades, scores, and intelligence that did not make medical school will even consider other degrees and for that they should be shamed.

if you want to treat patients, go to medical school and obtain your MD, only then will you be respected and capable of treating your patients. otherwise, your inferior training is only good to play doctor and endanger anyone that walks in your door.

there an OD hopefully said it, i hope the MDs are happy and everyone else knows their place and may we never argue again.

end transmission 😴

Indeed. This is correct in terms of optometry.

Seems to me Prozackmi dated a really cute Optometrist and got his booty dumped by her. Now he has all this pent up anger against other ODs.
Dude... get some therapy and find an end to all those unresolved issues.
Behavioral modification might work... :meanie:

Instead of insults or anything of the like, let's use this for something constructive. ProZach, could you explain why you feel the way you do about ODs?

Well, I could, but I'll just be flamed by unprofessional immature types who refer to people as "dude". I have my reasons and I believe they are valid. Of course, keep in mind, I never posted any of my comments in the optometry forum and never meant to start a flame war. My comments were made in the psychiatry forum. This Hollywood person seems to enjoy starting flame posts. I would like to see this thread closed due its inflammatory nature.

ProZack sent me an unsolicited PM encouraging me not to go into optometry. When I accused him of having a chip on his shouder I never heard back from him...hmm...

Dear Prozack,

Your right, you are entitled to your opinions. however, its all about presentation. for example, its obvious your pretty uptight to grow annoyed over being called "dude," yet you go on and on about opts being "over-glorified technicians," which i do not believe is an official title for opts...so how that is professional is beyond me. The difference is that a "dude" is a slang which holds no mal intent...whereas yours is a little hard to shake off as non condenscending. All your post regarding opts are provoking in nature...so as a doctor that works with the mind...i would assume you understand the concept of resentment. in addition, i believe Hollywood isnt starting any flame war, he is helping you out by raising awareness for your valid opinions of optometry (kudos to him). Since you have so much to say about optometry being such and such, instead of going to unrelated forums like podiatry or psychiatry, why not be a little more direct and state your opinions here.

OOppss .... It's Dr. Dude...My Bad.

What are your reasons?
A. Dumped by OD
B. Failed out of Optics Class.
C. Friendly Neighborhood Behavioral Optometrist taking your patients away.

C'mon, tell us why you dislike us so much. Sit back and talk to us, we are here to listen. Express your inner most tormenting thoughts about us.

This is a flame-war. Thread closed.

Obviously not necessary, as ODs are well respected in the medical community.
