Someone in our program wrote up on our dry erase board in our call room:

"We're on our 8th month, only 28 to go!"

Then, talking to another colleague of mine, we figured out how cool will it be next year, our PGY-2 year, to say "We only have a year and a half to go!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Couldn't agree more. Of course, as I am planning to fellow, then I have 3.5 more years. 😀

Pretty friggen' cool, and yet, totally terrifying! I was just talking today with another intern about how in a mere 5 months, WE will have interns waking us up in the middle of the night in the ICU to help them out on call. And... they'll expect us to know what to do!

*Explanation: We completely run our unit - no med/surg folks - and as 2nd years, we're considered seniors in the unit and supervise/help out the interns. 😱*

I had a senior tell me yesterday in true Geiko commercial fashion after I'd had a particularly terrible day, "Look at the bright side, I just have 5 more months" I had that same thought about the MICU next year...

Dude, what happened to that picture of the hot girl you used to have posted next to your name circa late 2002?

It's the Hornet here - long time no post. You've probably forgotten me. I used to haunt these parts back in the day when we were all wearing shortcoats. How far we've come!

How is the USF life treating you? I interviewed there last year, fell in love with it, and ended up ranking it #4. Got my first choice in the NE.

What's it like being the intern class and the only residents? Tell me who else matched there; I might remember some from the interview trail. (And how many of you guys who matched there answered the interview quiz questions correctly? I know I effed up the EKG. Oops.)

Peace out, man.

WOAH! Hornet is BACK! (Well, atleast visiting!). How is that whorish pixie with the heart of gold?!?!? 🙂

USF is great. There are six of us. Myself and another DO who interviewed with me, Preeti, she was from Univ of Miami, Tony, IM/Peds attending from Charity, Lael, from UNiv of Indiana, and Eddie, flight surgeon who did his medical training at OSU. We all have a great time together, its a lot of fun being hte first class.

Pros: We take all responsibility of the ED. My first day as an intern I ran two codes with just myself and the attending. Our numbers are probably disproportionately high sinec we're the only residents, and we can do whatever we want. Also, its cool being on the first rotation of an off-service because we can tell them what we'd like our responsibilities to be.

Cons: No upper level residents to teach us from their perspective. This will change in a few short years as we become R2s and R3s, but for now its one of the only cons.

*sigh* Hornet is back... for the meantime.

And the pic is still here on my computer, but since I'm moderator, I thought I woudl change the pic, to, uh, a movie star, sicne, I'm, uh, female, and uh, like guys.

Oh God, it's good to be home!

Quinn, that whorish pixie with a heart of gold turned out to be a complete waste of time (like almost every other woman out there). I chose residency in this city just to be near her, and I'VE NEVER SEEN HER FACE since getting here. Can you believe that? She's in an interminable on-again, off-again loop with her ex-boyfriend (the one who abuses her and hurls racial insults at her).

Yes, life is strange, and as I get older, I find myself growing more and more sexist: women want a take-charge guy, even if it's to the point of being an a**hole. It's true; read all the women's mags out there, like Glamour, that are supposed to be for liberated, professional women but in fact support the worst stereotypes by harping constantly on women's being submissive to men.

Off my soapbox now. I feel like a weary traveler who's come back after a long sojourn. Let me rest my feet, drink warm cocoa, and enjoy the pleasure of your hospitality.

CHEERS!

Hornet-

Well, whatever you do, try not to watch Dr. Phil or Oprah, that will get you even more ticked off. Although I must admit I don't mind when Dr. Phil chews out a woman for yelling at her husband for not picking up his socks.

Sucks about that whorish pixie. In fact, since you invented the phrase (or the basis for the phrase), I use it often to describe several RNs and LPNs at my hospital.

Anyone planning on going to ACEP next year in San Fran? Maybe Hornet you can meet some of the lovely ladies there before they decide to get a lesbian wedding.

...Even though I'm on the opposite side, I plan on going. Its time for the USF residents to get that bake sale going.
