Can anyone recommend a fairly cheap but thorough book or something to get a chem refresh? I'd like to take Chem 1 in the fall, but the school requires you to take a chem placement test. If you don't score high enough, you have to take the high school level chem, which I'd rather not do. I'd just like to review before I take the placement test, but it has been 9 years since I took high school chem. Brain is a little rusty, but it's coming back slowly.

Right now I have a book called Chemistry Success in 20 Minutes a Day. It's good, but not quite thorough enough in some areas.

I liked the "Instant Note" series when I was in vet school. Really helped with biochem, immunology etc. I bet they have one in chemistry...Browsing Amazon.com I found they have several. "Instant Notes in Chemistry for Biologists", "Instant Notes in Physical Chemistry", "Instant Notes in Medicinal Chemistry", "Instant Notes in Inorganic Chemistry" etc. It's a great series!

Flip through it at the local bookstore, but you may want to glance at Chemistry For Dummies. (Yep, the yellow and black "Dummies" series). My edition is probably updated now, but it had some stuff in there that stuck with me for awhile. Much of it is very, very basic -- you may want that, or may not-- but figured I'd mention it. I think the author is/was a high school chem teacher -- else he's a college professor, I can't remem now.
