Hey guys, I've been using my winter break to review/re-teach myself o-chem by reading through David Klein's books. I've seen that he also has a General Chemistry I as a Second Language book, as well. I was wondering if any of y'all have used this book before and if it is as helpful as the organic ones? Or, if you have any suggestions for a Gen Chem review book that thoroughly covers all the basics...?

Thanks!

i used organic chemistry for dummies for orgo I, as for gen chem i used examkracker's MCAT chemistry/ and my old AP chem review book as a way to review topics before an exam

General note to SDN users:

These supplementary books are not vital to do well in the class (o-chem). I read about half of the "ochem as a second language" book before the semester - I don't think it helped that much.

If you want to prepare, find out what textbook you will be using, buy it now and start skimming through it [observing the terminology, playing around with problems, etc].

There is nothing complex about the subject (note: at least in regards to the first semester). In fact, now that I think about it, all the topics/material in ochem I are quite simple to grasp -- the rub lies in the fact that there is quite a lot of info (albeit simple material, conceptually speaking) to absorb and differentiate between come test time...and that is where most the difficulty lies.

OP's already taken the course. REview/RE-teach. But who knows, my verbal is probably a 3/15.

Yeah, I've already taken all of my chem's minus biochem. And I took gen chem my first semester of freshman year (my school puts gen chem 1 & 2 together into 1 semester.... forcing me to take an unnecessary, mostly irrelevant, upper level, inorganic chem class geared toward chem majors...lame) so it's been a while since I've taken it (I'm a junior now). Just looking for a good review that will help me remember all the little "tricks" and details.

yea, i figured this also so thus addressed it to the general sdn user. 😉
eh, 2/15*

@OP i havent personally read any of Klein's gen chem books, so i'm not sure. but more people could probably steer you in the right direction in terms of review materials in the MCAT section of SDN.
