It seems like that the Chicago programs do get a lot of mention in these Anesthesia threads, and it occurred to me that a few of the are on my short list of where I plan to apply. Feel free for anyone comment on these three programs, either by personal experience or by reputation:

1. Northwestern
2. Loyola
3. UIC

I know that the UIC program has been described as "cush" by several, but a little more than that would be helpful.

Thanks,

i posted some stuff about northwestern last year after interviewing there and going for a 2nd look and talking to many of the residents. just do a search and re-read it. hope it helps. 😉

Take a peek at Rush. I'm a year out, earmarked for the next director at my hospital and am head and shoulders above any of my colleagues. Oh yeah, I just purchased a 2004 Mercedes SL 55AMG convertible.

As much as I should be impressed by your recent auto purchase, you didn't really indicate what was so good about Rush's program compared to its Chicago counterparts? Sell it to me.

Also, I didn't see any DO's on the faculty, and the resident list doesn't show whether any of the residents are DO's. As an Osteopathic student, I don't really want to put forth any energy into applying to a program which may not be DO-friendly. Can you shed some light on that? Thanks!

Your thinking is faulted. Apply to wherever you want.

C'mon, Vent...you're going to have to do better than that. If my thinking is somehow 'faulted,' then you have to say why it's faulted. I know exactly what feedback I've gotten from some of the allopathic programs, so if the truth is otherwise then you would serve this discussion well by elaborating for more than 10 words.

Drop this whole notion of "DO friendly." Apply to any and all places that you want an interview at. Every single anesthesiology program in Chicago has DO's as residents (except perhaps Cook County which I am not familiar with).

Just click on the boxes in ERAS and show up to the interviews.

This isn't allopathic ortho/neuro surgery my man.

Venty,

For the sake of discussion, I hope you're right. Perhaps my perspective will change after a few interviews...
