Hi,

Baby due soon. Not married and not living in same household as mother/baby.

Curious if I can get a financial aid increase to cover 1/2 of the cost of daycare or nanny....

Thanks.

No, Federal financial aid for living expenses is calculated for the student only. Dependents and spouses are never factored in. However, what you do with your financial aid is up to you. And many single students I know return a portion of their loans because they don't need all of it.

Not quite true.

Many schools will adjust a student's CoA to reflect day care cost. It is considered a cost of the student. Other dependent expenses generally can't be factored into the CoA.

For example, with receipts, my school will increase fin aid by:
Infant to Toddler: $1345 monthly
Two to Six Years: $997 monthly
Six to 12 years-Before and After School Program: $350 monthly

Talk to your school. Good luck.

Yes, with a letter from the daycare or receipts. Providing extra loan money above CoA for childcare is in the federal rules.
