Child neurology as a DO

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Child neurology is still a residency- even if you do 3 years of peds first, you’d then have to apply to child neuro through ERAS.

There’s no reason to avoid applying to categorical 5 year child neuro residencies (with 2 years peds then 3 years neuro). It’s pretty DO friendly, just apply broadly.

KCU has a grad from last year who matched into child neuro at WashU. She’s the only DO in the whole program tho.

I think it's one year peds, one adult and 3 child Neuro

This is easily searched- it can be one year IM and one year peds, but few people actually do this. This pathway is available for people who start adult neurology residency, then change their mind and switch to a child neurology residency. This way, their PGY-1 year of IM would still count, then they’d do one year of peds (but good luck matching to a one year peds prelim, as these are rare), then 3 years child neuro.

The vast majority of people do 2 years peds, then the 3 years child neuro. And, most of the time, the 5 years are bundled together in the same place in a categorical program.
