Chimeric Offspring

I just read an article about creating chimeric offspring but I don't see why anyone wants to do that when alternatives exist. To create knock-out organisms, can't we just impale the male pronucleus of an oocyte or simply inject a modified diploid nucleus into an enucleated oocyte???!!! When is it absolutely necessary to create chimeric offspring???!!! 😕
