Hi all,

I have some interview conflicts. I know I need to make some hard choices, but am finding it difficult!

I would appreciate your thoughts on these conflicts:

WVU versus Oklahoma

Case Western versus UVA

Thanks!

I can appreciate how difficult this decision must be for you, but I hope you make your decision soon. Look no further than the interview thread to find people freaking out about not hearing from their favorite programs, and you will understand that yours is a decision most would love to be in a position to make.

WVU is a diamond in the rough, a solid program with nice facilities and faculty. I think Dr. Chisolm, a notable retina guy at WVU is retiring within the next year. Morgantown is a really great city by the way.

Oklahoma is a solid program that has been gaining in reputation and was ranked in the most recent Ophthalmology times survey. Remember though, that you will have to deal with all of the scope of practice politics in Oklahoma. Either choice would be good.

I am not a big fan of UVA's program. Its a small program, with old facilities in a sleepy town. Some of their faculty rubbed me the wrong way also.

Good luck.

I agree, Oklahoma is a great program. I am not sure that practicing in the midst of OD scope expansion is an entirely negative thing. It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out and the chair, Dr. Parke is very passionate about this subject. It will be an educational experience and the very least.

Anyone know much about either of these programs. I have heard by word of mouth that Maryland is a "sleeper program" anyone have any other info. Thanks

heard Maryland is a very good program from a number of people

I've heard positive things about Maryland too, strong faculty in each subspecialty, nice facilities, good mix of pathology. Was urged against interviewing at Ochsner from faculty at my school, heard they have lower volume since Katrina and the dept is in flux, but this is hearsay so take with a grain of salt.
