Hey dental friends! Hope everything has been well for you all. I'll be applying next cycle, so I'm starting to figure out my game plan. I could use some input from anybody who has applied to OOS schools. With my stats, what are the smartest options:

*Kansas resident, 3rd year student

*3.53 ogpa, 3.48 sgpa, upward trend

*25 AA, 24 TS, 28 Bio, 22 GC, 23 OC, 27 PAT, 22 RC, 30 QR

*111 shadowing hours and counting (60 endodontist, 45 general, 6 UMKC clinic)

*80 volunteering hours and counting with Ultimate Frisbee clinics and the local dental clinic

*Vice President/Recruitment Officer for Ultimate Frisbee club for two years

*Worked as an undergrad bio TA for a semester

*Played the trombone for 9 years, if that means anything

I'm planning on doing a wide spread of apps to be safe, but so far I have umkc, uw, umn, michigan, baylor, san antonio, usc, ucla, pittsburg, and nyu. Tell what you guys think!

Add Marquette! Also make sure if you add Marquette to hit submit at the latest mid-July. Also get some more shadowing hours at a general dentist. Many schools don't count specialties toward the requirement. The U of MN for example would say with 45 hours at a general dentist you would need 5 more to meet their requirement of 50. I also agree with the person above!

I'd add Ohio State, Iowa and Maryland. Ohio and Maryland you have in-state after a year, Iowa will love your stats and being from KS and you have a shot at some scholarship dollars there. I agree to get in at least 60 hours with a general dentist before you apply.

How difficult is it to obtain in-state residency for those states?

Fantastic, thanks for the advice guys! I didn't realize my stats were as strong as they are. Im pumped up to apply now!

if you search the forums, you can get a flavor for which schools accept more OoS. You do have strong stats, but applying broadly still is smart to ensure you have the most chances
