Christmas cheer

So I'm scheduled to be working on the floor Christmas eve and Christmas day. What can I do to bring Christmas cheer to the nurses and patients? Food? Some small gifts? Santa suit? Thoughts?

Well, I've worked over 30 consecutive Christmas days.....and most of the eve's beforehand or nights....😉

Usually, in the NICU and many wards the nurses will have a dinner/breakfast, etc and often there is a lot of outside food.

So, for the nurses, I recommend taking a few extra minutes and asking them about their holidays, their kids, etc. They'll like that more than the extra treats.

For the patients, it's a bit trickier as the hospital will be swarmed over with volunteers, etc. Same thing though - spend some extra time talking with them or playing a game with them if you can.

During snowmageddon a few years ago we carted in wheelbarrows full of snow and the staff each made snowmen for a snowman contest in the PICU. We had the ECMO snowman, the nurse snowman, the doc snowman, the admin snowman-- and the kids who could and the parents were judges. It was awesome.

But oh wait, we need snow.
