Hi,

I was hoping to get some advice on what specialties one can get into with a hep B positive status. CDC guidelines suggest exclusion from invasive specialties (surgery etc).

Has anyone here been through this process as a hep B positive med student? What specialties are still viable? How did ur hep B + status change what you could so during ur clinical rotations? Any advice?

Gracias!

Sorry to hear about that buddy; are you taking medications?

Sorry to hear about that buddy; are you taking medications?

i just found out last week, it's quite a bummer... I must have contracted it as a child as i've never engaged in any high exposure activity (transfusions, surgeries, iv drugs, hospital work) etc... I'm asymptomatic, I feel great, all my liver fn tests are normal at this time. I have a follow up appt with a liver specialist and I guess management strategies will be devised at that point...

Some of my specialty choices are out the window but i'm wondering what's still viable given this... Has anyone had a similar experience navigating thru such a diagnosis?
