I am just wondering if anyone has any input regarding cinci and OSU. I like the cinci prog but i heard that the city is not the best. Columbus seems like a better city but i heard some unpleasant things about the prog.
Thanks.

Although I cancelled my cinci interview for no other reason besides the date did not conveniently allow me to interview at all ohio programs at once, I did interview at OSU. The only reason I am not ranking it highly is the city. I dont want to live in a college town, but the people that do live there love it. I loved the program. I thought the PD and chairperson were good approachable people who were very supportive of their residents. The residents I met were down to earth and easy going. The hospital has a ton of money, and is continually pouring it into improvements of the hospital and research facilities. Call is Q6 which is great. Patient volume is high so you get exposure to a wide array of pathology. Out of all the programs at which I interviewed, OSU had the best balance of general and subspecialty pediatrics. There is a lot of support of the hospital by the community pediatricians, and I hear they very often give the residents a lot of autonomy with their patients, while being easily available if the residents have questions or concerns. Also, if you are married, they have a person at OSU whose primary job is to find a jobs for the residents' spouses. If I could stand being in Columbus I would be there in a heartbeat.

Being from Columbus and having rotated at Cinci, I can offer a few opinions. I would disagree with the previous poster that Columbus is just a "college town". While that may have been true in years past, I feel that currently things in Columbus are developing amazingly well. It's actually a great place for young people (NOT just college kids) to be. Also, however, I think that Cincinnati is a great place as well. Their program has so many strengths, and I don't see the city as a minus. I actually really enjoyed it -- the Hyde Park and Mt. Adams area struck me as a lot of fun, and it seems like Cincinnati is working hard to make their city even better.

Just a feeling -- I think that Cinci has more people going into fellowships than OSU. OSU seems to really appreciate its residents and do a lot for them. Cinci also has great PDs who seem really involved and interested. To be fair, I think they're both great choices. The size of the programs is quite different, but the cities are both absolutely wonderful places to live. I hope some of this helps!
