Hey SDN,

Does anyone know a resource for learning the basic statistics and other considerations for clinical studies comparing two groups of patients? I never took statistics, but I have an opportunity to do some clinical research... I just don't want to look like a fool starting out having to ask exactly how to do everything. My background is basic science, and I mostly stuck to the technical side rather than data analysis, so I have no clue about any of that...

Sounds kind of lame, but you could always pick up an intro to stats textbook and spend a couple of weeks going through it. It'll at least give you some kind of basic foundation.

Biostatistics for dummies has some pretty good reviews.

Andy Fields "Discovering Stats Through..." books and his website are solid. He has ones for R, SAS, and SPSS. They cover the theory behind the statistics and teach the software. They're geared toward behavioral sciences but will cover everything you'd need to know, when and why to use different tests/analyses and designs, and much, much more.
