Hi,
Thanks for all previous help. I was wanting to apply for an ERAS token but was put off at the first question! Not a good start! It asks:
Please select:
1) I am a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
2) I am a foreign national
Then if you say 'foreign national', it asks: "Will you need "visa sponsorship" through either the ECFMG J-1 Program or through the teaching hospital in order to participate in U.S. residency training?
Yes, No, Uncertain
My situation: I'm going through application process to become U.S. Permanent Resident (aka Green Card holder) and expect this will come through around the end of September. This could of course be as early as early september or as late as oct/nov (strictly speaking even once I have the visa in hand, likely mid September (but potentially oct/nov), I'm not a Permanent Resident until I enter the US - the visa allows entry, then on entry one automatically becomes a PR).
I'm slightly struggling how to answer this without harming my application (and contemplating delaying applying for a token until September 14th or even a little later).
My questions are:
1) I assume this information is passed onto programs?
2) If I put 'foreign national' and then 'no' or even 'uncertain' for VISA now, can I later change this to say I'm a US Permanent Resident and will programs see this change? I was under the impression that being a Permanent Resident was a major plus to my application and so it would be disappointing if that wasn't clear to programs once it happens (ie if I submit on Sept 15 saying I'm not a PR and then enter the US on Sept 16 becoming a PR!)
3) If by mid-September say the visas not yet through but I'm through the embassy interview and just waiting for passport delivery would be worth delaying applying by a couple of weeks? I assume not?
4) I suppose if people think PDs wouldn't receive updated visa info from ERAS I could always just email them all once I enter the US?
Thanks for any advice! Sorry for the wordiness.
